Calendar and Journaling

During a divorce, documenting matters! Keeping an accurate record of events and interactions strengthens your case and can serve as evidence. Keeping a journal and a writing things down on a calendar will illustrate inconsistencies and patterns, as well as documenting key details.

Calendar

Use a paper calendar. Make it small and keep it with you. Document interactions and events on the days/times they occur.

Just for the Case

Don’t use the calendar to record anything that is not directly related to your divorce case. Write things down immediately when they happen.

Facts Only

Assume that the calendar will be read. The judge might see this, so it’s important that it includes just the facts of the events and interactions.

Discuss

Bring the calendar to meetings with your attorney for review. Be prepared to share any important details.

Journal

You can keep a journal too. Work through difficult feelings on paper if you’d like, but be sure to keep that separate from your calendar for your case.
